Energy Ottawa Case Study - The OCDSB Going Solar!
The OCDSB is committed to delivering effective environmental education and modeling environmentally responsible practices, programs and operations.
In an effort to support and become further engaged in environmentally sustainable practices, the OCDSB has installed thirteen 10kW MicroFIT solar photovoltaic systems on school roofs. In addition, the OCDSB is also leasing school roof space on 69 schools for the installation of larger systems. Made possible in part by the Government of Ontario’s MicroFIT Program and the Ministry of Education’s Energy Management and Conservation Initiative, the solar projects are providing great opportunities to teach students about renewable energy.
Managed by Energy Ottawa, the solar projects are expected to create enough revenue to pay off each school’s investment within 8 years.
The schools that have solar photovoltaic systems installed are:
D. Roy Kennedy Public School
Earl of March Secondary School

Nepean High School
Osgoode Township High School
Queen Elizabeth Public School
