Special Education Advisory Committee
Special Education Advisory Committee
A Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) was established as required by the Education Act and Ontario Regulation 464/97.
The Special Education Advisory Committee shall:

Make recommendations to the board with respect to any matter affecting the establishment, development, and delivery of special education programs and services for exceptional pupils of the board; |
|
|
Participate in the board’s annual review of its special education plan; |
|
|
Participate in the board’s annual budget process as it relates to special education; and |
|
|
Review the financial statements of the board as they relate to special education. |
The Special Education Advisory Committee usually meets on the last Wednesday of the month during the school year at 7:30 p.m.
Membership
As per Ottawa-District School Board’s policy P.019.GOV, the composition of SEAC shall consist of:

Three trustees appointed (currently Trustees Rob Campbell, Pam Fitzgerald and Bronwyn Funiciello); |
|
A representative and alternate member nominated by each of the following associations as per Ontario Regulation 464/97:
|
|
Association for Bright Children, Ottawa Region Chapter (ABC) |
|
|
Down Syndrome Association, National Capital Region (DSA) |
|
|
Learning Disabilities Association of Ottawa-Carleton (LDAO-C) |
|
|
Ontario Association for Families of Children with Communication Disorders (OAFCCD) |
|
|
Autism Society of Ontario, Ottawa Chapter (ASO) |
|
|
Ottawa-Carleton Association for Persons with Developmental Disabilities (OCAPDD) |
|
|
VOICE for Hearing Impaired Children (VOICE) |
|
|
|
One or more additional members who are neither representatives of a local association nor members of the Board or another Committee of the Board: |
|
|
Ottawa-Carleton Assembly of School Councils (OCASC) |
|
|
Up to three community representatives |
