Special Education Advisory Committee

A Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) was established as required by the Education Act and Ontario Regulation 464/97.

The Special Education Advisory Committee shall:

Make recommendations to the board with respect to any matter affecting the establishment, development, and delivery of special education programs and services for exceptional pupils of the board;

Participate in the board’s annual review of its special education plan;

Participate in the board’s annual budget process as it relates to special education; and

Review the financial statements of the board as they relate to special education.

The Special Education Advisory Committee usually meets on the last Wednesday of the month during the school year at 7:30 p.m.

Membership

As per Ottawa-District School Board’s policy P.019.GOV, the composition of SEAC shall consist of:



Three trustees appointed (currently Trustees Rob Campbell, Pam Fitzgerald and Bronwyn Funiciello);

A representative and alternate member nominated by each of the following associations as per Ontario Regulation 464/97:

Association for Bright Children, Ottawa Region Chapter (ABC)

Down Syndrome Association, National Capital Region (DSA)

Learning Disabilities Association of Ottawa-Carleton (LDAO-C)

Ontario Association for Families of Children with Communication Disorders (OAFCCD)

Autism Society of Ontario, Ottawa Chapter (ASO)

Ottawa-Carleton Association for Persons with Developmental Disabilities (OCAPDD)

VOICE for Hearing Impaired Children (VOICE)





One or more additional members who are neither representatives of a local association nor members of the Board or another Committee of the Board:

Ottawa-Carleton Assembly of School Councils (OCASC)

Up to three community representatives

The following non-voting representatives will also be included in the membership:

Council for Exceptional Children

Ottawa-Carleton Elementary Teachers’ Federation

Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation

Professional Student Services Personnel

Ottawa-Carleton Secondary School Administrators’ Network

Ottawa-Carleton Elementary Operations Committee.
