The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board has the privilege of providing public education to over 72,000 students. We offer a diverse range of programs throughout our 147 schools and educational sites. The Board has approved a new strategic plan for 2011-2015. The Strategic Plan, as expressed through our strategy map, provides a one-page overview of the vision, mission and key areas of focus for the District.
Process
In June 2010, the Board approved the framework for the development of the district’s strategic plan for 2011-2015. The framework outlined a six phase process which would lead to the presentation of a draft strategic plan in May 2011.
Consultations with the community were a critical element of the strategic plan development process. 15 Schools for the Future Consultation sessions were held in the fall of 2010 and were attended by over 500 participants.
In depth discussions on strategic planning were held by the Board and senior staff in February and March. Together, the Board and staff reflected on what was learned through the community consultations and an environmental scan.
Over the month of April, the key elements of our strategic plan were compiled into a strategy map. The District hosted two public open houses in May to learn more about the key elements of the plan, as outlined in the strategy map. Thank you to all who joined us and provided feedback. Feedback was also collected through online consultation forums throughout the process via a blog, facebook page, twitter account and email (schools4thefuture@ocdsb.ca).
The strategy map was reviewed and amended by the Strategic Planning and Priorities Committee (SPPC) on June 1st 2011. On June 14th 2011 the Strategic Plan, as outlined in the Strategy Map, was revised and approved by the Board of Trustees.
