OCDSB Information Technology (IT) Plan
Enabling a Culture of Access and Mobility
Research reports published over the past 24 months confirm what we are seeing and experiencing in our society: that a new technology landscape has emerged where people can access computing almost anywhere, anytime, and on many kinds of devices. This outcome is of great interest to the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board given its commitment to engage and empower student learning in a wide range of program environments and to enable employees in our workplace setting.
It is important for us to recognize that technology plays a significant and rapidly changing role in the business and learning of our school district. On the learning side, technology has an increased impact on classroom practices and on our ability to further engage students through the development of rich learning tasks which emphasize collaboration, creativity and critical thinking. On the business side, technology is critical to the delivery of services, the management of information and improves our capacity to enhance our risk management culture.
Our District’s Strategic Plan provides us with a clear direction for engaging the full potential of our school district to support student achievement and well-being. Our Plan also recognizes a focus on digital learning, as well as innovation and leadership surrounding our corporate business functions hosted on our IT network, as factors that support the district’s focus on teaching and learning. One of the objectives for our District is to have a fully mobile and user-accessible technology environment by 2017.
Among the key work identified for 2012/2013 in support of our Strategic Plan is “to develop and distribute an Information Technology [IT] Plan to support business and learning activity within the District.” Enabling a Culture of Access and Mobility - Planning for Technology Usage in the OCDSB - 2012 – 2017 is our plan that allows us to ensure that our students and staff have access to the technology they need.
