Hiring Process:

We are currently using Apply to Education to manage our casual/occasional lists for Educational Assistants, Office Support, Early Childhood Educators, and School Technician Support.

Applications for Casual Custodial and Maintenance Support are not processed through Apply to Education.  If you are interested in employment as a Casual Custodial/Trades, please click here.

If you are interested in applying for casual employment with the OCDSB, simply register your application on-line through Apply to Education as a ‘Support Applicant’, select ‘Occasional’, and then ‘Save’.   Once you are registered, you must then apply to the appropriate casual job posting number.

For instructions click here  . Should you have any questions in completing your online application, call Customer Service at 1-877-900-5627, ext 224. Once your online application has been received, Human Resources will send you an e-mail to let you know the next steps to follow to complete your application. In addition to your social insurance number, date of birth and two professional references, you will be asked to provide Human Resources with the following documents:

bullet Police Records Check for the vulnerable sector (completed within the last 6 months) — how to get a police records check
bullet Negative TB test or chest x-ray taken in the last year — Certification of Tuberculin Test
bullet Direct Deposit form — OCDSB 298 form  with void cheque
bullet Personal Tax Credits Return forms (Log onto www.cra.gc.ca/forms online under Forms & Publications/’T’ & TD to download the tax credits return forms)

Position Description  

 Educational Assistants

Educational Assistants work in elementary and secondary schools with special education students, both in integrated and in congregated sites, as well as in an itinerant capacity, assisting in the assessment of students for appropriate placement. A day in the life of an Educational Assistant may include: administering medication: responding to students’ physical needs such as dressing and feeding; communicating through sign language or Braille; preparing, modifying or adapting learning materials; and much more!

Qualifications

Requirements will vary, depending on the specific position duties.
For example:

bullet Community college diploma as a Developmental Services Worker, a Child and Youth Worker Diploma, or an equivalent program
bullet Current First Aid/CPR certificate
bullet 1 to 2 years of related experience with school-aged special needs students
bullet Experience with, and knowledge and understanding of social, emotional and physical needs of students with learning disabilities or physical challenges
bullet Knowledge of the Ontario curriculum, and education communication software such as Dragon and Kurzweil is an asset

 

 

 Office Support

Office/clerical support positions provide clerical, secretarial and administrative support elementary and secondary schools and administrative departments, such as Finance, HR, Information Technology, just to name a few.  You may also provide guidance services assistance to school guidance counsellors, office staff and students in secondary schools, througout the District.

Qualifications

Requirements will vary, depending on the specific position duties. For example:

bullet Minimum qualifications for Secretarial and Clerical positions are completion of a secondary school diploma, and related office/secretarial experience
bullet Professional skills/training or a diploma (e.g., formal training in Payroll Administration and/or Accounting) may also be required for positions in areas such as Finance, Payroll, Design and Construction, and Human Resources

 Early Childhood Educators

Under the direction of the Principal, the Early Childhood Educator works in collaboration with the classroom teacher to provide high quality and effective play-based education to support enhanced learning and cognitive, emotional and social development for Junior and Senior Kindergarten students in a full-day Early Learning Program. The Early Childhood Educator may also lead an extended program (before and/or after school) at designated sites.

Qualifications

Specific qualifications are:

bullet a two-year community college program in Early Childhood Education, or equivalent
bullet

Registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators

bullet

and a minimum of one (1) year of child care experience is required  

bullet

valid First Aid certification/CPR is required



 

 Library Technician

 Computer Technical Support

Computer Technicians provide support to schools and departments on desktop computers and associated equipment. Some of the duties include, but are not limited to: installing and upgrading desktop workstations; setting up, testing, and installing computer systems; repairing and replacing data connections and troubleshooting problems; providing instruction, explanation and support to users.
