Canterbury Concert Band Awarded a Gold Standing in Grade 6 Concert Band, AND Canterbury chamber chorus FIRST IN MIXED VOICE YOUTH CHOIR
June 8, 2010 Ottawa, ON- It was a first for Canterbury and the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board when Canterbury placed first in the mixed voice youth choir category at the National Competition for Amateur Choirs. Laurie Hamilton, Head of Music at Canterbury High School, directed the Canterbury Chamber Chorus to first place, giving these grade 11 and 12 students the perfect ending to their senior years of high school.
At the National Finals of the Musicfest Canada, held at the NAC last week, the Canterbury Concert Band, also directed by Laurie Hamilton, was awarded a Gold standing in grade 6 Concert Band ( the highest level for Concert Band competition). This band is made up of very talented grade 9 through 12 students, with the majority coming from the Senior Winds classes at Canterbury. The judges were extremely impressed with the band’s level of musicality, precision and decorum.
