Woodroffe High School Pumpkin Carving Contest
In Support Of United Way
October 29, 11
a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Lincoln Fields Walmart Location
October 25, 2010, Ottawa, ON — Do you want to have the most unique pumpkin in your neighbourhood; the one that makes the neighbours green with envy, but pumpkin carving is not your claim to fame – well not to worry - help is on the way!
Woodroffe High School students are creating one-of-a-kind works of pumpkin art in their first period classes. The students pay $10 to purchase the pumpkin which they carve.
The carved pumpkins premier showing will actually take place in the foyer of Woodroffe High School, where they will be judged and the winning recipient will receive a pizza lunch from the principal. The pumpkins will then be transported to the Lincoln Fields Walmart store on Friday, October 29, where they will be sold for donations to the United Way Campaign. The pumpkins will be sold from 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Fields Walmart location on Richmond Road.
Woodroffe High School teacher Jamie Hughson says his General Learning and Dual Support Program students will be dressed in costume at the Walmart locations promoting Halloween spirit and raising funds for United Way.
Mr. Hughson added that this is a teachable moment where students learn about art, business, economics, and helping those less fortunate, it is a way for his students to work in collaboration with local business. Mr. Hughson added that Sophie Beauchesne of Walmart Lincoln Fields has been instrumental in creating an environment that promotes teamwork with his students and her staff.
Come celebrate the season and students working, learning, creating, and helping the United Way 2010 Campaign. In addition kindergarten students from D. Roy Kennedy Public School will be invited to Woodroffe High School where they will be allowed to trick or treat in the safety and climate-controlled environment of the school - it will be a prelude to their Sunday evening adventures when they head out in their neighbourhoods.
