Parkwood Hills Public School Closure
Tuesday, 26 January 2010, Ottawa, ON —The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board voted to close Parkwood Hills Public School effective September 2010, at a special meeting of the Board, held on January 26. This decision comes after months of comprehensive review, public consultation, and committee deliberation.
Students residing in the Parkwood Hills Public School attendance boundary (less the area to be directed to Meadowlands Public School) will attend Sir Winston Churchill Public School for JK – 6 EFI, excluding the area to be directed to Meadowlands Public School.
Students residing in the Meadowlands Public School attendance boundary will attend Meadowlands Public School for EFI and for SK – 5. A Grade 6 EFI will be added in school year 2011-2012.
Cathy Curry, Chair of the Board said, “Decisions such as these are are always made with the best interests of students in mind and in alignment with our goal to improve student achievement and are not taken lightly.”
Ms. Curry expressed her sincere thanks to the community for their participation in the Accommodation Review process. She added that trustees and staff would now focus their efforts on ensuring a smooth transition for the students, their families, and the greater school community.
