Olympic hopeful Mirela Rahneva visits Meadowlands in advance of 2018 Games

Mirela Rahneva is a rising star in the Olympic sport of skeleton racing, and a medal hopeful for Canada heading into the February, 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Last year, in her very first World Cup season, Rahneva won a gold, a silver and two bronze medals to finish third overall.

One of the nice things about producing an annual report is the opportunity to reflect on the previous year — our accomplishments, our challenges, and most importantly what did we learn? Looking back on the 2016-2017 school year, we accomplished many things and the Board made some made some very important decisions related to student learning. In the following pages, you’ll read about the many noteworthy accomplishments of our schools, evidence of progress in student achievement, and our thinking about next steps in each area of our strategic plan. But I would like to take a moment to reflect on what we learned.

Public Engagement on Education Assessment in Ontario

Earlier this fall, the Premier and Minister of Education announced a review of Ontario’s student assessment practices. Led by the Minister’s Education Advisors, the independent review aims to ensure that Ontario’s student assessments are culturally relevant, able to measure a wider range of learning, and better reflect student well-being and equity.
