Ontario Ministry of Education

The Ministry of Education oversees the system of publicly funded elementary and secondary school schools in Ontario.

The Minister of Education:

arrow Issues subject content
arrow Sets requirements for student diplomas and certificates
arrow Provides funding to school boards for teachers, support staff and for building and maintaining schools. For 2007-08, the government’s total investment in education is $18.3 billion.
arrow The minister may also set policy for student assessment, which is then carried out by the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO).
