Talk With Our Kids About Money Day is an annual event to encourage parents and educators to take the time to discuss with young people the importance of financial literacy, from managing pocket money to knowing about more complex financial tools that they will be using later in life.

With the support of BMO Financial Group, the Canadian Foundation for Economic Education (CFEE), a non-profit organization, launched this annual initiative. CFEE has developed a program used at home and in schools across Canada that equips parents, guardians and teachers with a wide range of information, activities and resources to ensure that children develop the knowledge and skills necessary to manage their personal finances throughout their lives. CFEE has distributed close to half a million copies of resource materials for use by educators in schools across Canada.

On April 15th, the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is pleased to announce that  Kevin Maynard, Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of the Canadian Foundation for Economic Education (CFEE) will be speaking at our next Speaker Series event. Kevin will help guide us through how to know which topics and concepts are appropriate to discuss with our kids to help them be successful into adulthood.  Special guests include Jane Rooney, Financial Literacy Leader, Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, and Kelly Harper, Director Brand and Customer Learning, BMO Financial Group.

This session will provide information on  the concept of financial literacy and break down the concepts as they are presented to different age groups. Attendees will be led through the process of teaching and learning through interactive web-based activities that can be found at .
