General Information
The Extended Day Program provides parents of students in kindergarten to age twelve with access to before and after school child care in designated Full Day Kindergarten locations. The programs are led by registered Early Childhood Educators who deliver the Ministry of Education’s Extended Day Program curriculum which includes recreational and social opportunities for children. Students will also have the opportunity to work on homework if need be and to participate in a variety of group and individual activities.
The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is dedicated to providing a high quality program to early learners and making that program available where requests warrant establishing a program.
There are two ways that the extended day program service can be offered to students. The District can run its own program at a full day kindergarten site. Where there is an existing, eligible third party child care operator in the school, the school board can enter into a formal agreement with that child care organization for it to offer the program on behalf of the OCDSB.
1. OCDSB Extended Programs for 2012-2013
- The OCDSB Extended Day Programs will operate on all regular instructional days from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. If your child will be in a full day kindergarten program and you are interested in registering in an OCDSB program, please fill in the registration form
if you have not done so already.
- The cost for both before school and after school care is $20 per day. If parents choose to have their children attend only one of the care sessions, the appropriate costs are cited below. Costs are payable on the first day of the month.
- Charges for PA days, March Break and Christmas holidays are calculated above and beyond the school day rates. The full day’s rate of care will be $32.00 per diem. Where interest demands, a summer school program may be offered at certain schools in the district.
- Registration will be done by the schools and a non refundable deposit of $50.00 is required with the registration form. Actual registration numbers will determine if the program is offered.

Additional Information:
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Will the OCDSB provide busing or other transportation to and from the Extended Day Program?
No. Transportation to and from the extended day program is the responsibility of the parents/guardians of the child.
2. Will all schools with full day kindergarten offer the Extended Day Program?
No. Sufficient registration numbers will dictate whether a program is offered. Usually a minimum of 20 students is required for the Extended Day Program to be offered at a Full Day Kindergarten school.
3. How can I apply to work for an Extended Day Program?
Qualified Early Childhood Educators, including those currently at sites that are being replaced, are invited to visit the OCDSB’s career page and apply.
4. Can I enroll my child for only one or two days a week?
Programs run by the OCDSB allow for parents to enroll their child for specific days providing that the days are consistently the same each week. Third party providers of programs cannot do this.
5. Can I enroll my child mid year?
Yes. Fill in a registration form close to the time of year when you need your child to enter the program.
6. Is my child automatically enrolled in the program for PA days, March Break, and Christmas Holidays?
In OCDSB programs you will be required to do a separate registration closer to these times. Third party providers of programs have included these days in their blended fees; therefore, you would already be registered for them.
