The tiered approach is an extremely effective approach to assessment and intervention which sequentially increases the intensity of instructional intervention for a student requiring special education programs and services. The following links provides information regarding specialized programs. Specialized programs or special education classes for OCDSB students whose needs can best be met in a class comprised of students with similar identified exceptionalities. The location of the classes may or may not be in a pupil's community school. There is a central application process which requires parental consent to authorize the application.

As required under the Education Act, the District will provide a Special Education Program for the enrolment and placement of each person under the age of 21 who is qualified to be a resident pupil of the Board and who resides or is lodged within the jurisdiction of the Board until the last school day in June in the calendar year in which the pupil attains the age of 21.

If a student's 21st birthday falls between September to December of a calendar year, then their last school year is the previous year, ending in June. If their 21st birthday falls between the months of January to June , they can remain in school until the end of June of that school year.
