How to Register

New Students to the OCDSB

Beginning Monday, January 25, 2016 you may register your child(ren) to attend the new Kanata North elementary school for September 2016.

If you reside in the attendance boundary for the new Kanata North elementary school (see map) and your child(ren) is/are new to the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board you may register your child(ren) for the new school at either Jack Donohue Public School (101 Penrith Street) or Stephen Leacock Public School (25 Leacock Drive).

Students Currently Attending Roland Michener Public School, Jack Donohue Public School or Stephen Leacock Public School

If your child(ren) is/are currently attending Roland Michener Public School, Jack Donohue Public School or Stephen Leacock Public School and resides in the attendance boundary for the new Kanata North elementary school
(see map), please note that Board staff are working with your school principal in order to advise affected students and ensure a smooth transition.  Individual communication from your school principal will be sent to you at a later date.

Extended Day Program

To register in the Extended Day Program (EDP) to be offered at the new Kanata North elementary school opening in September 2016:

If your child(ren) is/are new to the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, when you register your child(ren) for the new school, which can be done at either Jack Donohue Public School or Stephen Leacock Public School beginning Monday, January 25, 2016, please ask for an Extended Day Program registration package to complete.

If your child(ren) is/are currently attending the EDP program at
Roland Michener Public School, Jack Donohue Public School or Stephen Leacock Public School please speak with the coordinator of the program at the school on how to transfer EDP locations.

Kindergarten Information Night

All new Kanata North elementary school parents are invited to attend the Kindergarten Information Nights to be held on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Stephen Leacock Public School (6:30 pm) or Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Jack Donohue Public School (6:00 pm).

 
New Kanata North Elementary School – Approval of Grade, Program Offering and Attendance Boundary
 
A new elementary school will be constructed in Kanata North for September 2016.  The public consultation process associated with the opening of that new school has now concluded and the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, at its meeting on the evening of June 22, 2015, approved the following motions:
 
·         THAT the grade, program offering and attendance boundary for the New Kanata North elementary school be approved as shown in Appendix D of Report No. 15-074, with the school offering a JK-5 grade structure for September 2016, and a phase-in of grade 6 the following year;
 
·         THAT for September 2016, the revised attendance boundaries for Jack Donohue Public School, Roland Michener Public School, Stephen Leacock Public School, W. Erskine Johnston Public School and Earl of March Secondary School (grades 7 and 8) be approved as shown in Appendix D of Report No. 15-074;
 
·         THAT students enrolled in the English program at W. Erskine Johnston Public School in 2015-2016 from the Arcadia development area be given a one-time option to remain at W. Erskine Johnston Public School;
 
·         THAT students enrolled in the grade 7 English and Early French Immersion programs at Earl of March Secondary School in 2015-2016 from the triangle-shaped area in Morgan’s Grant community (bounded by Klondike Road, the hydro transmission lines, Terry Fox Drive and Second Line Road) be allowed to remain at Earl of March Secondary School for grade 8 in 2016-2017;  and
 
·         THAT the younger siblings (born in 2015 or earlier) of students residing in the Arcadia development area and enrolled in W. Erskine Johnston Public School in 2015-2016 be given a one-time option to attend W. Erskine Johnston Public School.

Additional information regarding the new school and expected student movement for September 2016 will be forthcoming during the next school year.
Staff Recommendation Report 
 
Report 15-074 New Kanata North Elementary School - Approval of Grade, Program Offering and Attendance Boundary is complete and will be discussed at the Committee of the Whole meeting on June 16, 2015.  Final decisions are scheduled to take place at the Board meeting on June 22, 2015

A Working Group comprised of parent council and community association representatives has been meeting over the past few months in an effort to develop sustainable attendance boundaries for all schools involved in the study. The solution will result in changes at a number of area schools.
Staff will present proposals at the meeting for consideration. There will be a brief presentation at the beginning of the meeting followed by an opportunity for the public to ask questions. Feedback is requested to assist staff developing their final recommendations to the Board of Trustees. An information package providing details of the proposals will be available at the meeting.

On November 26, 2013, Board approved the scope and timeframe for an accommodation review of Kanata North schools in conjunction with the opening of a new elementary school in Kanata North for September 2015.
