Dear Parents, Students, Staff and Community Partners,
Thank you for your participation and interest over the last several months during the Centretown, Glebe and Old Ottawa South accommodation study process. The review has now concluded with Board decisions made as noted below.
Board, at its meeting of February 22, 2011 approved the following motions regarding interim accommodation measures, and made further decisions regarding a consultation process for the continuation of our accommodations study in Centretown, Glebe and Old Ottawa South.
A. The Board approve the redirection of the Junior Kindergarten program at First Avenue Public School to Mutchmor Public School effective September 2011; and
B. That staff be directed to consult on the proposed timelines, scope, and consultation plan for an accommodation review and report to Board at its meeting of March 22, 2011, with its findings and recommendations.
With the approval of the relocation of the JK program at First Avenue Public School to Mutchmor Public School, staff will take immediate steps to prepare to welcome these children in September 2011 and will work to enhance linkages between First Avenue and Mutchmor Public Schools for the benefit of all students and families. Staff will also endeavor to accommodate, with the greatest amount of flexibility, reasonable transportation requests made due to disruptions caused as a result of this JK relocation, being mindful of existing childcare and family scheduling arrangements.
Communications regarding the approved interim solutions and these transportation efforts will be sent home in backpacks with more detail.
Interim Measures Report 11-034
Summary of staff recommendation to be considered by Committee of the Whole on February 17, 2011
For First Avenue Public School, it is recommended by staff that the interim measure to be implemented for September 2011 is the redirection of the JK program at First Avenue Public School to Mutchmor Public School.
It was also recommended that the larger review of the area as a whole begin in the spring of 2011 for the Centretown, Glebe and Old Ottawa South. The objective is balancing enrolment and program offerings amongst area schools and the review would also take into account the implementation of the Full Day Kindergarten Program.
