Board Decision – December 15, 2009
At its meeting on December 15, 2009 the Board approved the following motion regarding the Orleans Wood - Terry Fox Elementary Schools Grade and Boundary Review:
A. THAT effective September 2010, Orleans Wood Elementary School be reconfigured to offer both ENG/EFI programs to students in Kindergarten through grade 3;
B. THAT effective September 2010, Terry Fox Elementary School be reconfigured to offer both ENG/EFI programs to students in grade 4 through grade 8; and
C. THAT the boundary maps be redrawn to create one catchment with the appropriate grades directed to the appropriate school.
Orleans Wood – Terry Fox Elementary School - Grade and Attendance Boundary Review
On June 22nd, 2009, the Board approved the timelines and consultation plan for the grade configuration and boundary review involving Orleans Wood Elementary School and Terry Fox Elementary School for implementation in September 2010.
The accommodation review is necessary to address declining enrolment and its impact upon program viability. As the scope of the study encompasses 2 elementary schools, it is quite likely that potential solutions will involve the relocation of grades and/or programs between the 2 schools.
Over the past few months, the Orleans Wood and Terry Fox school committee (principals, school council/parent representatives) have met to discuss potential accommodation solutions for the 2 schools. A community open house meeting has now been scheduled to take place on 5 November 2009 to obtain broader public feedback on accommodation options developed by the committee. These options, along with the status quo are provided under the links below.
