Board Approved Motion February 22, 2011
Thank you for your participation and interest over the last several months during the Kanata Area Elementary Schools – Interim Accommodation Measures study. This study has now concluded with Board decisions made as noted below.
Board, at its meeting of February 22, 2011 approved the following motions regarding interim accommodation measures for September 2011:
A. THAT Roch Carrier Elementary School remains status quo;
B. THAT any students generated from the new residential development illustrated on Appendix F
attached hereto, be redirected from Roch Carrier Elementary School to Bridlewood Community Elementary School for JK-grade 8 ENG and to W.O. Mitchell Elementary School for SK-grade 8 EFI;
C. THAT JK students from Katimavik Elementary School attendance area be directed to Castlefrank Elementary School;
D. THAT 2011-2012 grade 4 MFI students from Katimavik Elementary School be redirected to either Bridlewood Community Elementary School or W.Erskine Johnston Public School in accordance with the attached boundary map (Appendix I
of report 11-033); and
E. THAT SK EFI students from Stephen Leacock Public School attendance area be directed to Roland Michener Public School.
What does this mean?
Roch Carrier Elementary School: For the 2011-2012 school year, the grade structure, attendance boundary (with the exception of the new housing development located across the road from the school) and program will be the same as it was for 2010-2011.
Katimavik Elementary School: For the 2011-2012 school year, Katimavik Elementary School’s JK students will attend Castlefrank Elementary School and grade 4 MFI students will attend either Bridlewood Community Elementary School (for those students living south of the Queensway/Highway 417) or W.Erskine Johnston Public School (for those students living north of the Queensway/Highway 417). MFI programs will continue to phase in at these sites adding a grade per year as the 2011 Grade 4 class progresses through the program, while MFI phasess out over time at Katimavik Elementary School.
Stephen Leacock Public School: For the 2011-2012 school year, Stephen Leacock Public School’s SK students will attend Roland Michener ; where the JK students have already been redirected.
With the approval of the redirection of the JK program at Katimavik Elementary School to Castlefrank Elementary School, the redirection of the grade 4 MFI program from Katimavik Elementary School to either Bridlewood Community Elementary School or W.Erskine Johnston Public School and the redirection of the SK program from Stephen Leacock Public School to Roland Michener Public School, staff will take immediate steps to prepare to welcome these children at the receiving schools in September 2011. Staff will also work to accommodate, with the greatest amount of flexibility, reasonable eligible transportation requests made due to disruptions caused as a result of these redirections, being mindful of existing childcare and family scheduling arrangements.
Communications regarding the approved interim solutions and these transportation efforts will be sent home in backpacks with more detail.

Interim Measure Report 11-033
Summary of staff recommendation to be considered by Committee of the Whole on February 16, 2011
For Stephen Leacock Public School, staff is recommending that the Stephen Leacock SK class be redirected to Roland Michener Public School. This would mean that the previously redirected JK and now SK students from the Stephen Leacock Public School boundary are directed to Roland Michener Public School.
For Katimavik Elementary School staff is recommending that the JK students be redirected to Castlefrank Elementary School and Grade 4 MFI be redirected by creating a new boundary that splits along the Queensway with students from the north being directed to W. Erskine Johnston Public School and the students from the south being directed to Bridlewood Community Elementary School.
For Roch Carrier Elementary School staff is recommending that there be no redirection of the current students at the school, but that a portion of the developing boundary (as yet unoccupied) be diverted now to W. O. Mitchell Elementary school or to Bridlewood Community Elementary School until the larger ARC has made its recommendations for longer term accommodations solutions for the overall community.
The foregoing recommendations would be for implementation effective September 2011.
