In the spring of 2011, students completed the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board’s first District-wide Student Survey. The purpose of the survey was to help the District develop a better understanding of our student population, and to gather base line information about our school climate and our First Nation, Metis and Inuit Student populations.
The student survey findings tell a compelling story about OCDSB students and their needs. The findings point to areas for action that can benefit students, parents and the District, and will help us move towards our 2015 vision of a dynamic, creative learning organization that fosters the achievement well-being and dignity of every student.
How is this information helping us to serve students?
Research tells us that student achievement is influenced by many factors, including experiences relating to ethnic and cultural background, gender, socio-economics, parental education and engagement, safety, and sense of belonging. The survey data will help us to understand how these factors impact our students. We are using this information to make decisions about instructional practice, programs, partnerships and services that are available to students. The survey results are also helping to inform the OCDSB’s annual Board Improvement Plan and all School Improvement Plans.
