Safe Schools and School District School Code of Conduct Policy Review

In November 2019, the OCDSB approved a consultation plan to address the Safe Schools and School District Code of Conduct Policies.

After the completion of the first round of discussions with students, parents and staff, we would like to share the first draft of the updated Safe Schools and Code of Conduct policies.

The OCDSB will share these draft policies with stakeholder groups, including students, parents and staff. Additional virtual group discussions will be held for further feedback (dates to be determined).

Please note, dates have changed from original timeline due to COVID-19 restrictions and school closures.

Phase One - COMPLETE

November 2019 to March 2020

Engage with stakeholder groups including students, parents/guardians/caregivers, and school staff to gather input on the draft policy creation. Engagement activities include:

  • November 2019 to March 2020 – Student focus group sessions in 12 schools and additional student feedback provided by school council co-presidents and senators, and members of the LGBTQLS+ school groups, Original Voices Indigenous group, and Black Youth Forum leaders
  • November 2019 – Principal and Vice-Principal facilitated discussion
  • February 2020 - Multicultural Liaison Officer focus group session
  • March 2020 – Parent/Guardian facilitated discussion

April 2020 to March 2021

This is the policy revision stage. Most of the work will be internal and will involve reflection on the feedback received.

Phase Two

March to October 2021

Draft policies will be posted online and shared with participants of phase one, including students, parents/guardians, multicultural liaison officers, and school administrators.

Draft policies will be shared directly with Trustees and Advisory committee Chairs.

Revision to draft policies based on stakeholder feedback in Phase 2

Presentation of the revised policies and recommendation for approval of policy revision for Safe Schools and School District Code of Conduct.
