IMPORTANT - Schools closed for in-person learning

On Monday, January 3, 2022, the Ontario government announced that all schools will be closed for in-person learning until Monday, January 17, 2022. OCDSB in-person students and OCV students will begin remote learning starting on Wednesday, January 5.

The school closures were announced as part of other measures to limit the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. You can read the full announcement here: https://news.ontario.ca/en/release/1001394/ontario-temporarily-moving-to-modified-step-two-of-the-roadmap-to-reopen

Technology support

In most cases, your child will require a dedicated Chromebook or laptop to engage in remote learning. If your child needs to borrow a Chromebook or an Internet hotspot or is a student with special education needs who requires access to SEA equipment, please watch for communication from the school principal with details on how to make this request. Please note,  hotspots are limited and are prioritized based on need (eg. rural and financial need).

Special Education

The provincial announcement indicated that some students with special education needs may be eligible for in-person learning. Parents of students enrolled in certain specialized program classes should watch for more information over the course of this week.
Emergency child care

According to the announcement, during this period of remote learning, free emergency child care will be provided for school-aged children of health care and other eligible frontline workers. More information will be shared as soon as it’s available.

We know these are stressful times for families and staff. The rise of Omicron and the changes in provincial direction about school openings creates uncertainty and anxiety.  During this period of remote learning, we will continue to provide support to students and families and to plan for the safe reopening of schools for in-person learning on January 17th.

You should expect to receive additional information from your school about remote learning.
