OCDSB Building New Schools in Findlay Creek and Riverside South

The OCDSB has long recognized the need for new elementary and secondary public schools in Findlay Creek and Riverside South. We are delighted to announce that the Ontario government has granted approval to proceed to award the tender for construction of a new elementary and secondary school.

With these much anticipated approvals in place, the OCDSB can now move forward with the construction of a new elementary school in Findlay Creek and a new high school in Riverside South. We share the community’s excitement about this next step forward!

These two schools will provide exceptional learning environments for a total of 2,190 students, as well as much needed additional child care in these growing communities.

Findlay Creek Elementary School #2:

Grade: K-6

Pupil spaces: 674 students + two additional separate spaces for childcare

Location: 820 Miikana Road (in the Findlay Creek community)

Anticipated opening: September 2024

Riverside South Secondary School:

Grade: 7-12

Pupil spaces: 1516 students + two additional separate spaces for childcare

Location: The school will be located at the southeast corner of Earl Armstrong Road and Spratt Road, in the Riverside South community.

Anticipated opening: September 2025

Construction for the new schools is expected to begin in June and July.

OCDSB Director of Education Michele Giroux said “We appreciate the support of the community and the Ministry of Education in planning for these new schools. We know that families in this area have been waiting patiently for construction to begin. We share their excitement about the start of construction.”

The approval to move forward with these schools is timely. The OCDSB serves a growing community across the City of Ottawa. Last week, an official opening ceremony was held for Shingwakons Public School in Stittsville, which opened to students in January 2023. In January 2024, families in Barrhaven are expected to move into a new elementary school in the Half Moon Bay community. In September 2024, a new high school will open in Stittsville.
