Completion of Confirmation of Attendance process and next steps

Thank you for the cooperation and patience as we move one more step closer to the start of the school year. The Confirmation of Attendance process is now complete. We understand how challenging it was to make this decision under such short timelines and we are deeply grateful for the cooperation from OCDSB families.

Whether your child will attend school in person or remotely, we are committed to helping your child succeed.

There is lots of work to be done in the next few weeks as we redesign our practices to open elementary schools, adapt programming for secondary schools, and create virtual schools. The confirmed attendance data allows us to finalize enrolment, determine class sizes, staff schools and programs and implement appropriate health and safety measures. As we work through these steps, we can answer more of your detailed questions.

Our Return to School Plan balances the learning and safety needs of our current reality. Our next step is to put this plan into action so that we can safely welcome all students to the start of a new school year.

We continue to provide updates and answers about the school year. Please check our Frequently Asked Questions for more information.

The OCDSB is holding an online speaker series for parents about preparing our child for the Return to School. Join us for a presentation by Dr. David Tranter, Professor, Faculty of Social Work – Lakehead University - “From Worried to Well: Supporting Your Child at Home and at School” on Monday, Aug 24, 2020, at 7:00 PM. Dr. Tranter will discuss critical strategies to promote student well-being, and your own well-being, during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a live webinar with time allotted for a Q and A session. For parents looking for tips on sending kids back to school during COVID-19, CHEO has this excellent resource. Ottawa Public Health also has these great resources for parents and students. We highly recommend that you read these in detail.

Please remember that the safe opening of schools depends on all of us following public health guidelines.
