Halloween at the OCDSB

We know that Halloween will look different in Ottawa this year, but we will still welcome ladybugs, superheroes, witches and monsters in OCDSB schools next week.

We have consulted with Ottawa Public Health and wanted to share some of the guidelines OCDSB schools will be following in celebrating Halloween this year.

  • Costumes: For families who celebrate Halloween, children are welcome to wear simple costumes to school. Please keep in mind that they will need to wear the costume all day and will not be able to change clothes. With the fall weather upon us, families will need to ensure that outdoor clothing fits over the costume.
  • Makeup, costume props, costume masks or accessories will not be permitted.
  • Masks: Students will continue to follow health guidelines for wearing a cloth mask, which are mandatory for grades 4 to 12 students and strongly recommended for kindergarten to grade 3 students. Costume masks will not be allowed.

Current health and safety policies will remain in place. Please note that schools will not be holding Halloween dances, in person assemblies or costume parades and the sharing of treats or candy will not be allowed this year.

Ottawa Public Health has more information for families about how to celebrate Halloween safely this year on their website.
