OCDSB schools have raised more than a quarter of a million dollars for cancer research through participation in the 2019 Terry Fox School Run.

According to results shared from the Terry Fox Foundation, OCDSB schools raised $236,834 through events held across the district in 2019.

“In 1980, Terry Fox set out on a mission to transform his dream, to find a cure for cancer, into reality. It takes enormous strength to conquer an obstacle as big as cancer. Terry never faltered in his determination and perseverance and we are honoured to see Ottawa-Carleton District School Board’s family of schools bring the same strength and spirit to this fight,” the Terry Fox Foundation said in a letter to the OCDSB.

The Foundation further recognized the efforts of two schools -- Glebe Collegiate Institute and Hilson Avenue Public School -- as having successfully ranked among the Top 50 Fundraising Schools in Ontario for 2019. Glebe raised $9518 and Hilson Avenue raised $11,560.

Overall, the OCDSB has raised more than $2.7 million throughout its participation in the Terry Fox School Run. Funds raised have supported important cancer research.

According to the Foundation, “These vital funds are accelerating precision medicine approaches and connecting field researchers in ways never thought possible under the Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres network.”
