The first day of the solar year, Vaisakhi celebrates the harvest. This date is particularly important in North India, though Vaisakhi is celebrated in many different ways in Canada and in other countries around the world.
In the Sikh faith, Vaisakhi marks the creation of the Khalsa. During the month of Vaisakh (April-May) in 1699, a new generation of citizens was manifested, called the Khalsa (sovereign). The core values of Khalsa are kindness, justice, courage, determination, and strength.
Wishing a Happy Vaisakhi to all who are celebrating!
