Julia Fortey sworn in as OCDSB’s Kanata North/Kanata South (Zone 2) TrusteeIn an OCDSB board meeting on October 29, 2024, Julia Fortey was sworn in as the new trustee for Zone 2, Kanata North/Kanata South for a term ending November 14, 2026.

Trustee Fortey was selected in a special Board meeting on October 15, 2024. Fortey replaces former trustee Alysha Aziz who resigned from the Board in July 2024.

The OCDSB has 12 school trustees who are elected to serve a four-year term and three student trustees who serve a one-year term. Each Trustee represents one of the OCDSB’s 12 electoral zones. Each zone has a diverse community with unique needs, priorities and educational requirements.

Trustees meet regularly as the Board of Trustees. At the Board table, trustees represent the issues and concerns of their community and make decisions based on the interests of all students in the district.

About Julia Fortey:
Julia Fortey is an accomplished educational leader with a Master’s in Education from the University of Prince Edward Island. With over twelve years of experience at Algonquin College, Julia currently serves as an Academic Administrator, where she advocates for diverse learning practices and academic integrity. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Art History with a minor in Architecture from Carleton University, and an Architectural Technologist diploma from Algonquin College. Julia’s commitment to lifelong learning is reflected in her ongoing professional development efforts, ensuring that she remains at the forefront of educational practices that support students from all backgrounds.

Additionally, she is a current and active Board member, with Algonquin College’s Board of Governors. This experience has allowed her to participate and educate herself in good governance practices. In the past, she has also held Board roles for both the Ottawa MG Club and the local chapter of the National Kitchen and Bath Association.  

As a parent and active community member in Zone 2, Julia is deeply invested in the well-being and academic success of students. She strives to create a supportive environment for all learners. Her vision for education emphasizes safe, inclusive learning spaces that foster personal growth and academic achievement, reflecting her dedication to quality education in her community.
