2022-2023 School Council Parents Reaching Out Grant

Purpose: To support innovative projects/activities that engage parents/caregivers and build their capability in anti-racism, equity/anti-oppression, and food sovereignty.

Grant Amount: Up to $750 per School Council. Collaborative projects may apply, but the allocation is limited to $750 per school.

Eligibility Criteria:

Projects must be completed between February 28, 2023 - June 16, 2023 and meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Projects must show a dedication to addressing and combating racism, anti-Black racism, anti-Semitism, and/or anti-Indigenous racism and elevating the voices of racialized/minoritized parents/caregivers and elders.
  • Projects must provide spaces for the voices of racialized parents/caregivers to address issues of equity, anti-oppression, and human rights.
  • Projects must create a sense of belonging within the school environment by acknowledging and valuing parents'/caregivers' identities and assets.
  • Projects must respect parents/caregivers as co-collaborators with teachers by ensuring their identities are embedded in the curriculum.
  • Projects must contribute to raising awareness around local food production and building skills around planting, growing, harvesting, budgeting, and distribution in a sustainable way.

Application process: Applications must be submitted via the 2022-2023 School Council Parent Reaching Out Grant Application Form between January 30 - February 20, 2023

Decisions will be released on February 27, 2023. The distribution of funds will begin on February 27 for School Councils that apply before February 20. If any funds are still available, School Councils that apply after the deadline will be considered.

  • Student initiatives
  • Staffing initiatives
  • Equipment purchases
  • Previous year expenditures
  • Food purchases for distribution or gift cards
