An important part of building engagement is listening to families in your school community and understanding their needs and interests. Consider sending out a survey to identify what parents in your school community need and want. Your survey could ask about:
- Interest in different topics for events and workshops
- Interest in different forms of school involvement/volunteering
- Barriers that prevent families from becoming involved or attending School Council events
- How families prefer to receive information about things happening at school (email, website, social media, etc.)
Use the parent survey responses to develop a parent engagement action plan that addresses barriers to parent involvement, identifies areas in which parents can help, and considers parents’ suggestions.
