Dates to Remember

November 20: Transgender Day of Remembrance

Thank you to all who joined us at last night’s Transgender Day of Remembrance Webinar. Transgender Day of Remembrance was established in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith, and is recognized on November 20 each year. It began as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all transgender people who had been lost to violence since Rita Hester's death, beginning an important annual tradition now known as Transgender Day of Remembrance.

November 20: National Child Day

National Child Day celebrates the rights of children, and commemorates the date the United Nations adopted the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) on November 20, 1989. By signing on in 1991, Canada made a commitment to ensure that all children are treated with dignity and respect and have every opportunity to reach their full potential. Learn more.

November 20-26: Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week

Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week is an opportunity for us all to reinforce clear and positive messages that bullying is not acceptable in our schools and communities. Next week, we will be working to raise awareness and provide helpful information for how we can all work together to prevent and respond to bullying.

November 25: International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women reminds us of the importance of preventing violence against women and girls, and ensuring support is available for survivors. Learn more
