Glashan Public School Principal Jim Tayler Recognized as Canada’s Outstanding Principals 2019

Jim Tayler, Glashan Public School Principal, is one of just 30 individuals from across Canada to earn the Learning Partnership – Canada’s Outstanding Principals 2019 award. This is given to principals who demonstrate innovation, leadership and creativity. Nominations come from parents, colleagues and community members, with the final 30 individuals chosen by a national selection committee. Principal Tayler is recognized as a leader at both the school and district level. Since beginning his educational career in 1980, he has worked as a teacher, vice-principal, and principal in a variety of settings and schools.

Principal Tayler has worked with staff to strengthen Glashan Public School’s reputation as an innovative school steeped in 21st century learning and contemporary educational methods. For the past four years, Mr. Tayler has been a leader in New Pedagogies for Deep Learning, an international educational initiative that is transforming teaching and learning around the world.

He has organized three international trips for grade eight students (China 2016, Sweden 2017, and China 2018) with a fourth being planned for Vietnam in March 2019. As a result of his many successful projects and initiatives, Glashan Public School was featured in an episode of a Brazilian television documentary series showcasing innovative schools. Principal Taylor said, "It's an incredible honour to be recognized as one of Canada's Outstanding Principals 2019. For me, it is a personal and professional highlight for which I am very grateful but could not have been achieved without the remarkable support of the entire Glashan school community."
