Inuuqatigiit's Bridging the Gap (BTG) Student Support and Presenters

Inuuqatigiit’s Bridging the Gap  Student Support Coordinator provides 1-to-1 support for Inuit students and families (grades K-12) to navigate the education system and to increase awareness of Inuit values, culture and history. External referral forms are to be submitted to Inini at [email protected] .  

Inuuqatigiit’s Bridging the Gap Presenters (Genova and Aalla) are offering free virtual presentations for K-12  for OCDSB schools to increase awareness of Inuit culture and history through authentic learning experiences. Educators are encouraged to sign up through the Indigenous Education K-8 Currents Community. For more information contact Holly Alguire for more information at [email protected]

Cultural Enrichment Workshops with Inuuqatigiit’s Bridging the Gap Presenters (Genova and Aalla) are available for staff meetings and parent council. Principals can contact Holly Alguire for more information at [email protected]

  • Indigenous Voices in Schools - elders and traditional knowledge keepers are paired with schools for multiple visits with students and staff
  • Artists In Residence program - artists visit for a two-day workshop to create a collaborative mural
  • Leadership Camp - a two-day leadership camp combining Indigenous traditional knowledge and leadership activities
  • IN-STEM program - students learn science, tech, engineering and math through a hands-on program, taught by traditional knowledge keepers and University of Ottawa volunteers
  • Resources are provided for teachers of First Nations, Métis and Inuit Studies classes
  • Aboriginal Post Secondary Information Program - buses and chaperones provided for students in grades 11 and 12 to attend this information day
  • Cultural competency of staff improved by providing professional development opportunities
  • Math learned through Loom Beading program - knowledge keepers visit classrooms to instruct beading and mathematical concepts
  • Indigenous Education Itinerant teacher (K-8) paired with elementary schools to support staff in becoming culturally competent and responsive
