Character Initiatives

The OCDSB supports a number of Character Education Initiatives in schools across the District. Each school also promotes character education through the curriculum and local/school events. To learn more, check with your school principal.

ME to WEMe to We
Me to We is part of a family of organizations, including Free The Children and We Day, that has a shared goal: to empower a generation to shift the world from 'me' to 'we'—through how we act, how we give, the choices we make on what to buy and what to wear, the media we consume and the experiences with which we choose to engage." The OCDSB supports the Me to We program delivery by providing access to educators and schools. Together we encourage young people to get engaged in social issues they are passionate about. Students acquire transferable leadership skills and become active, socially conscientious citizens who are committed to making a meaningful difference both locally and globally.

Random Acts of KindnessRandom Acts of Kindness foundation
The Random Acts of Kindness™ Foundation inspires people to practice kindness and to "pass it on" to others. The foundation provides free educational and community ideas, guidance, and other resources to kindness participants. To learn more, please visit their website.

DILA logo

The DILA Youth Program is an initiative in Secondary schools in the OCDSB which works to support youth in taking action on community and/or societal issues that are relevant to them. In partnership with DILA, an annual student conference is held in the fall in which high school students from across the district come together to discuss civic, societal and environmental issues in local to global contexts that are relevant to them, using an inquiry-based learning approach. DILA facilitators work with students and help equip them with plans to initiate change. After the conference, facilitors visit school classes and clubs to help support their action plans. The DILA Youth Program also parallels the Grade 10 Civics curriculum as the student action projects allow students to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and attributes that they have developed by civic action-based learning.
