What is Family and Community Engagement?
Family and Community Engagement (FACE) in the OCDSB is a full, equal, and equitable partnership among families, educators, and community partners to enhance student achievement and well-being.
At the OCDSB we believe if we commit to building the capacity of both staff and families to engage and invest in partnerships that are culturally responsive, respectful, and built on relational trust, then the desired outcomes for students will be increased student academic performance, equitable educational practice, and social-emotional well-being.
What will Family and Community Engagement do?
We will provide the following services to families and community partners:
- Parent Academy*, Speaker Series and Conference
- Translation & Interpretation
- Parent Involvement & School Council Support
- Student Learning Opportunities
- Family & Community/Resources & Partnership
*The Parent Academy includes workshops and events to help families stay engaged with their child's academic and social success.
How will this happen?
Our role is to listen, remove barriers, and nurture a culture of accountability and sustainable practice with children at the core. We will do this by focussing on these three key goals:
- Ensure all OCDSB schools are welcoming spaces for all students and their families.
- Develop sustainable school, family, and community partnerships focussed on student learning.
- Strengthen school councils to enhance parent/caregiver involvement.
These goals will build on OCDSB’s existing goals and initiatives and is in keeping with the OCDSB’s Strategic plan to:
- Increase student learning and engagement
- Improve student well-being
- Increase student achievement
