eLearning

About eLearning

  • eLearning is a District program that is offered asynchronously, meaning students can log in at the times that work best for them.
  • Classes are taught online by an OCDSB teacher or by a teacher in one of our partner Districts in Ontario.
  • Each eLearning class has a set maximum number of students.
  • Students are required to login at least once per week (and preferably more) into the Virtual Learning Environment. Attendance is required in order to remain in the class and to be successful.
  • Students should plan to spend at least the same amount of time eLearning as they would in a face-to-face class.
  • Unlike a traditional correspondence course, eLearning is taught by a teacher who students interact with regularly.
  • Students are required to keep up with their work on a regular basis in order to be successful.

Who to contact

Please contact your home school guidance counsellor to register for eLearning Day School or Summer School courses.

  • Students who are registered in an OCDSB school should meet with their Guidance Counselor in order to discuss their options for eLearning.
  • All other students who are registered with another publicly-funded school board in Ontario will need to contact their guidance counselor in order to discuss their options for eLearning
  • Students who are not registered in an OCDSB school or another publicly-funded school board in Ontario should contact the OCDSB Admissions Department at 613-596-8731 or [email protected].

Remote Learning

  • Remote learning is different from in-person learning but is scheduled in a predictable manner and involves daily learning.
  • Using technology, students learn from home through a combination of live online instruction and posted instruction/learning activities and materials.
  • Remote Learning involves a similar amount of time to what students would usually spend in the classroom learning and doing independent work.
  • Student assessment and evaluation is ongoing and student attendance/participation is tracked. The expectation of students engaging in remote learning is that they are online and present.
