Virtual School

The OCDSB’s Continuing Education Department is offering a Credit Recovery opportunity for students recommended by their day school. Credit recovery is available to students who had a final grade of less than 50% during the 2020/2021 and the 2021/2022 school years.

  • Course Options: Priority will be given to compulsory credits at grade 9 - 12 levels (including ESL/ELD).
  • Students may be registered in up to 3 Credit Recovery courses.
  • Students will engage either in person or synchronous/asynchronous learning via Google Meets and Google Classroom.

Eligible Students:

  • OCDSB students who have failed or received an “I” in a course during the 2021/2022 or 2020/2021 school years.
  • Must be currently registered in an OCDSB secondary school.

The Academic Upgrading program is designed for OCDSB students who have successfully completed a course within the 2021-2022 school year but need some additional assistance to meet curriculum expectations in order to achieve a higher grade. Academic Upgrading opportunities are available for OCDSB students who have been recommended to the program by their day school.

Students are required to attend the full summer school session (55 hours from July 6 - July 28) to meet curriculum expectations outlined by the Ministry of Education. Vacations and holidays must not be taken during the duration of the course.

Eligible Students:

  • Must be currently registered in an OCDSB secondary school
  • Must have completed the course with a passing grade

Information is subject to change without notice and programs will run subject to sufficient enrollment

Credit Recovery Registration:

  • Students must register for Credit Recovery courses through their Guidance Counsellor.  
  • Following the registration by Guidance Counsellors, the school will be contacted by Continuing Education staff to facilitate the transfer of the Evidence Record (required in order for the registration process to be finalized). Note: In the event that Continuing Education feels that a credit cannot be attained during the Summer School Credit Recovery Program, we will reach back to the home school administration to determine next steps.  

Academic Upgrading Registration:

  • Students must register for Academic Upgrading courses through their Guidance Counsellor.

Fees:

Student fees are required for:

  • International students (must be residing in Ontario in order to participate in this program)
  • Students residing outside of Ontario at the time of registration.

The fee for a Summer School credit is $500.00 + 3% administration fee payable online by Visa or Mastercard. Payment information will be provided upon receipt of the registration.

Requirements for Success: 

  • Students will need to login/attend and participate in learning with their teacher daily, until the credit(s) are recovered (if applicable) or the program ends.
  • For students attending virtually, in order to participate in this program, they will need to have access to technology and the internet.  Students who require technology and access to the internet should  communicate their needs to their Guidance Counsellor.
