Goulbourn Middle School Student’s Illustration Featured in J.K. Rowling’s Book

A Goulbourn Middle School student’s illustration graced the pages of J.K. Rowling's new book, The Ickabog. Maya V.’s drawing was one of 34 illustrations by children that were selected to be included in the book.

The Grade 7 student submitted her drawing as part of a competition held by Scholastic. An avid artist, Maya chose to illustrate Lady Eslanda, one of the characters in the kingdom of Cornucopia where the fairytale takes place.

Maya’s entry drew the eye of the judging panel at Scholastic, which reviewed over 34,000 entries from kids across North America. As a winner, Maya received a signed copy of The Ickabog, and Scholastic donated $650 worth of books to her local public library.

After being published online for free in the summer, The Ickabog was published in print this November and is available at the Ottawa Public Library. J.K. Rowling will donate royalties from the book to support COVID-19 response efforts through her charitable trust, Volant.

Way to go, Maya!
