Nepean High School’s Diverse Student Union Engages Students in Conversations and Action for Equity

The Diverse Student Union at Nepean High School is a student club where Black, Asian, Indigenous, and people of colour (BIPOC) work together to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion along with their fellow white allies. The club offers a safe space for students to learn from one another, share their stories and cultures, and promote social justice and equity.
The Diverse Student Union was formed five years ago, having previously been the school’s Black History Month Club. The club has organized many events over the years, including the annual Black History Month assembly, which highlights Black excellence and the work of those who fight for racial equity, and Multicultural nights that showcase the school’s rich diversity.

This year, the club is looking to welcome new members. They hope to amplify the voices of BIPOC students and engage in group discussions that will bring awareness and change within the school community and beyond. Initiatives planned for the school year include biweekly sessions, lessons on antiracism, and mentorship for BIPOC students.

Watch the video below to hear from members of the Diverse Student Union and learn about how they are working together to build our OCDSB Culture of Caring. If you are a Nepean High School student who would like to get involved in the club, visit your school website for details.
