Pinecrest Public School Recognized in the Indigo Love of Reading Earth Day Challenge

Pinecrest Public School has been recognized in the 2021 Indigo Love of Reading Earth Day Challenge for their environmental initiatives and commitment to student learning.

The school will be receiving a prize pack of 50 environmental-themed books from the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation to help students amplify their environmental literacy and learn about the history of Earth Day and more ways to help restore our planet.

Students and staff at Pinecrest Public School have worked together on many collaborative environmental initiatives, including the annual school clean-up, plastic bag grab challenge, in-school recycling program, beautification of the front entrance, a hydroponic garden, and a rummage sale to recycle unwanted items to finance the purchase of plants.

Other sustainable experiential learning projects are on the horizon. The school has launched its new IMAGINE project, which involves taking an underutilized section of the school grounds and redesigning it as a place to enjoy and learn about nature. Students will be designing birdhouses from recycled materials to be placed in the IMAGINE project.

Congratulations to Pinecrest Public School on setting a fantastic example of our OCDSB Culture of Social Responsibility, and thank you to the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation for supporting our Earth Day initiatives!
