Student Clubs Collaborate to Share their Learning for National Indigenous History Month

In June, the OCDSB recognizes National Indigenous History Month. It is time to celebrate and reflect upon the history, contributions, culture and strength of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples, and to learn about, celebrate and honour Indigenous knowledge, role models, and ways of knowing.

In recognition of this month, several student clubs collaborated to share their learning with the OCDSB community.

Indigenous Heritage Month in Canada: A Celebration of Indigenous People Everywhere is a collection of resources created by the Black Excellence Club and Feminism Club at Colonel By Secondary School, the IDEA Club at Cairine Wilson Secondary School, and the Student Council at Lisgar Collegiate Institute, together with many other volunteer student contributors.

The students developed a presentation highlighting Indigenous role models, contributions, and local businesses. They also created infographics; a Spotify playlist featuring Indigenous artists; and a video discussion as part of Lisgar Collegiate Institute’s annual Day Against Injustice.

Check out the resources below, and visit the OCDSB Indigenous Education webpage to learn more about programs, supports and resources for students, staff and families.
