Launch 2021 – October 21 & 22, 2021

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board and the Ottawa Catholic School Board co-hosted Launch 2021, a virtual post-secondary education opportunities event for students in Grades 11 and 12, and their parents and guardians. This two-day virtual event, held on October 21 & 22, 2021, was a great opportunity for students, parents and guardians to explore post-secondary pathways.

Registered participants had the opportunity to attend workshops and connect with various post-secondary institutions, organizations, and employers. Students got to explore options that supporteed their chosen pathway goals. These options included: joining the workforce, engaging in or continuing an apprenticeship, going to college, travelling, enrolling in a gap year program or going to university.

The event helped participants gather information about what is available, as well as hear about different learning experiences and opportunities from students, apprentices and employees.

Graduation is an important milestone however, it is not a destination, rather a launching point for students' life journey. We want students to know that each of these is a first choice option; that their decision and their choice is important and valued.

Event Details
This event was organized using an online platform called vFAIRS that allowed participants to visit a plenary hall, exhibitors’ hall and seminar rooms, as they would if this were in-person. They could choose sessions in advance, and log in to find the information and hear the stories that they were looking for. The structure allowed them to personalize their experience. They could choose to participate in all, or only parts of the day.
