OCDSB’s Transition Team in Learning Support Services (LSS) hosted a series of Parent/Caregiver virtual Question & Answer sessions in February 2023 and an in-person Transition Planning Fair on March 1, 2023 for students and parents/caregivers of individuals with developmental disabilities.
Q&A Sessions (virtual)
The virtual sessions provided information and helped answer questions on supporting your child as they transition to a life beyond high school. In 2022, the LSS team hosted a workshop series around four main topics. This year families were invited to watch those recordings and then attend a live Question and Answer (Q&A) session.
The virtual Q&A sessions were held on the dates mentioned below. (You can click on the topic to view the recording from the 2022 sessions.)
Transition Planning Fair
This in-person event was held on March 1, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at the Confederation Education Center.
Around 160 participants attended the event which began with an opening presentation by OCDSB staff, and was followed by an opportunity for families to talk to the service providers about their programs. Over 40 service providers and organizations within the Ottawa region had set up tables to provide information to the attendees. OCDSB staff were on site to help guide families to connect with the type of services they need.
To help select the service provider/organization that fits your requirement, we have compiled these Tips to Consider When Talking to Community Groups.
Families can refer to the Focus on Transitions Checklist that helps outline important timelines and community resources in planning for the transition.
