OCDSB Statement on School Board Trustee Elections

School board trustees are elected every four years. The next municipal election will be October 24, 2022.

Similar to elections for other levels of government, the OCDSB does not endorse or take a position regarding any individual candidate or their policies or proposals. We do encourage all candidates to familiarize themselves with the trustee roles and responsibilities under the Education Act, to:

  • promote student achievement and well-being
  • deliver effective and appropriate educational programs
  • develop, maintain and monitor effectiveness of Board policies
  • develop, communicate and review annually a Strategic Plan
  • monitor the performance of the Director of Education
  • practice responsible stewardship of Board resources

Any questions about the candidate registration process or voter information should be directed to the City of Ottawa Elections Office.

The OCDSB has a strong commitment to human rights, equity and respecting the dignity of every person.

We believe that all students, staff, families, trustees and community members have the right to feel physically and emotionally safe, welcomed and accepted at school or work regardless of race, ancestry, background, religion/creed, sexual orientation or gender identity.

These commitments are expressed in our OCDSB Human Rights Policy which was built on the input and beliefs of our community and aligns with our responsibilities and legal obligations under the Education Act, Ontario Human Rights Code and other legal frameworks in Canada.
