The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board has developed a common list of recommended personal use items for students in Kindergarten-grade 3 and grades 4-8. This list of supplies is strictly voluntary.
Supplies should be labelled and stored in a pencil case (or a resealable plastic bag) for student’s personal use. Parents are encouraged to check with their child and replenish supplies as needed throughout the school year. The school will have supplies available for students who are not able to bring their own.

What other items should my child bring to school this year?
School Supplies
School supplies are always a big part of back to school preparation. Here are a few tips for families:
- School supplies are voluntary. The school will have supplies available for students who are not able to bring their own. We know that some families prefer to purchase them, and if so, this voluntary supply list provides an idea of the kinds of supplies that are used by grade.
- If a student brings supplies, they should be labelled and stored in a pencil case (or a resealable plastic bag) for personal use.
- Students are encouraged to bring a pair of shoes for indoor use and which may be left at school.
A Backpack and lunch….
- Most students from kindergarten-grade 8 eat in their classroom with their class
- For safety reasons, food sharing between students is not encouraged.
- Students should bring their own utensils and refillable water bottles. Water bottle refill stations are available to students
- Please send items that students can manage independently. Practice before school starts.
- We encourage that all empty food containers and garbage are taken back home with the student. For environmental reasons, try to bring a waste-free lunch!
Outdoor Learning, and Recess
- As students spend a large amount of time outdoors (opportunities for outdoor learning, physical education classes and recess), students should be prepared for varying weather conditions (sunhat, jacket etc.). On rainy days, boots and an extra pair of socks is also a good idea!
