Nepean High School Swimmer Wins 11 Medals at Canada Games

In August, Nepean High School student Julie B. made waves at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in St. Catharines. She earned eleven medals – six gold, one silver and four bronze – tying for the record of most medals won at a single Canada Games!

As the competition approached, Julie – who swims competitively in the Nepean Kanata Barracudas Swim Club – dove into an impressive training schedule. She trained nine times a week, completing five or six kilometres of practise swimming on average.

Julie competed with more than 300 fellow swimmers at the Games. Her efforts earned her a spot at the Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Hawai’i later in the summer. She says her favourite part of the Canada Games experience was meeting new friends from across Ontario, while connecting with and cheering on fellow competitors in different sports.

quote

“I think Canada Games was such a great opportunity to get to swim against some of the best young swimmers in Canada and I had so much fun. I think I was most proud of getting to represent my province at a competition I had always dreamed of going to, and I was proud of Ontario for winning the swimming part of Canada games.” - Julie B.

As a multi-sport athlete, Julie encourages fellow aspiring athletes in the OCDSB to keep pushing themselves and working hard, because anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Her success at the Canada Games is certainly a great example of that. Congratulations Julie!
