Indigenous, Equity and Human Rights Road Trip: Transforming Cultures for Students, Staff and Families

The OCDSB will be hosting a special event to reflect on how far we’ve come and where we need to go to fulfill our commitments to Indigenous education, equity and human rights.

Released in 2020, the OCDSB Indigenous, Equity and Human Rights Roadmap charts our path in the goals and milestones we wish to reach so that all students can feel safe and welcome.

Working together, we must continue to identify and address systemic barriers that have prevented too many students from reaching their full potential. We need to ensure students see their identity positively reflected in their learning experience.

On Wednesday, November 9, 2022, we will launch what we’re calling our Indigenous, Equity and Human Rights Road Trip with an event for students, families and staff at Woodroffe High School.

The event will include:

  • Presentations and stories of actions taken at different schools and central departments
  • A student panel to reflect on next steps
  • Breakout sessions for participants to share their advice and ideas.

Over the course of the school year, this Road Trip will be a series of conversations across the district where we will discuss the Indigenous, Equity and Human Rights Roadmap journey - where we are, where we’ve been and where we need to go.

Date: Wednesday, November 9, 2022
Time:
6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.)
Location:
Woodroffe High School, 2410 Georgina Drive, Ottawa

Registration:

All participants are asked to register at this link.

This will be an in-person event, although students, parents or staff can participate virtually via Zoom.

Students: Share your stories

The 2020-23 Indigenous, Equity and Human Rights Roadmap aims to identify and address systemic barriers that impact students, staff and families.

We want to hear your stories about the journey so far: Students are invited to share their stories through videos, slide shows, creative expression (spoken word, poetry, art pieces), visual displays (photos, artwork, etc.) that show equity in action in your classrooms, student groups, or schools. Please fill out this form by Wednesday, October 26th to share your story about equity in action at the OCDSB.
