Glebe Collegiate Institute Celebrates 100th Anniversary

This month, Glebe Collegiate Institute brought together current and former students and staff for a weekend of celebrations marking the school’s 100th anniversary. The event featured a parade, musical performances, a volleyball tournament, a BBQ organized by the Glebe Student Council, Decade Rooms, and other activities.

Glebe Collegiate Institute welcomed its first students in 1922 and formally opened in 1923. Originally, the school was built to support the student population at the Ottawa Collegiate Institute, now Lisgar Collegiate. As the student body continued to grow, Glebe became a separate school in 1931.

Today, the school welcomes a diverse community of 1,320 students. Its motto, “In alta tende,” reflects how students “strive for the heights” while pursuing a wide range of academic programs, pathways, and extra-curricular opportunities.

The anniversary celebrations took place from October 14th to 16th, 2022, led by the Glebe School Council’s Organizing Committee of the Glebe 100 Anniversary. Many volunteers, students, staff, and alumni contributed their time to make this weekend possible – from the Student Council-led BBQ, to the Anniversary Stage Band with musicians from over 50 years of Glebe music.
