AdeelaAdeela, designated occasional teacher (DOT)

Since starting with the OCDSB in 2019, I have had the opportunity to learn from my students and colleagues with rich experiences while teaching or supporting in the schools from kindergarten to grade 6. I love being a DOT because I have the unique position of having an ongoing connection with all the students during the year, gathering rich experiences from various learning environments, and using different learning tools. My current OCDSB school has such an amazing staff that makes me want to come back every year, with such dedication, support and advice that allows me to grow as a professional.

I have been working for the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board for seven and a half years. What I like about my job now are the daily challenges. The interactions with the contractors and our OCDSB tradesman are more educational to me. I learn a lot from these people whenever I ask questions about everything in the building that could possibly be a problem. Having supportive supervisors that guide me when needed in order to ensure that school board policies are respected and followed. When I joined OCDSB I was surprised of the numerous possibilities for advancement and change. The available training to constantly improve your knowledge of the job.

I get to witness the tireless effort to support the diverse needs of students and staff. What drew me to the OCDSB was their commitment to continuous innovation - to listen, learn and adapt to best support our community. I appreciate working with a talented HR team who genuinely cares about our work to enhance the employee experience. I also value that the OCDSB offers tuition reimbursement opportunities that support my professional growth.
