Registration is now open.
Program duration: Wednesday evenings from November 6, 2024, to May 28, 2025 (Additional evenings and some school days may be required as we draw closer to the Forum date.)
Class Times: 5:30 pm - 9:21 pm
Location: Woodroffe HS
*Students will be required to attend regularly in order to benefit from learning with community partners and meet curriculum expectations outlined by the Ministry of Education.
About this program:
The OCDSB Continuing Education department, in partnership with the Equity Program team, will be offering two reach ahead credit opportunities for 2SLGBTQ+ students. Eligible students will have the opportunity to supplement and enrich their high school education by acquiring one credit. Students registered for IDC3O, IDC4O and IDC4U will prepare and plan for the nineteenth annual Rainbow Youth Forum (RYF). Students registered for HSG3M will have an opportunity to acquire a secondary credit but will not work on planning for the Rainbow Youth Forum (RYF).
Students will have the opportunity to participate in field trips and hands-on activities while developing or enhancing their research, problem solving or critical analysis skills.
Whenever possible, the courses will integrate community partners to ensure the interconnectedness of the various subject areas. Students will therefore have presentations and opportunities to learn with various community partners such as Rainbow Service Providers Network, SAFETY (Support and Education for Trans Youth), Ten Oaks Project, Kind Space, CCGSD (Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity), MAX Ottawa, CAS (Children’s Aid Society), PPO (Planned Parenthood of Ottawa), Capital Pride, Universities of Ottawa and Carleton, Algonquin College and the Ottawa Writers’ Festival. There will also be intersectional learning and collaboration between the Black Youth Forum student leaders and the student leaders in the RYF course.
