About LINC and ESL:
The Continuing Education Department offers Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) classes, and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for adults in Ottawa. Classes are offered from beginner to advanced levels and help develop skills in reading, writing, grammar, listening, speaking, pronunciation, and more.
- Our online LINC and ESL classes start at CLB level 3
- We have free childcare for students in our in-person LINC classes
- There is no childcare for students in our in-person ESL classes
- We do not offer classes for visitors, students on work/study permits or residents in the province of Quebec. Please check Visitors/Residents of Quebec
Registration:
- Fall 2024 LINC and ESL classes will start the week of September 9 to 13
- We have spaces available in some of our afternoon classes: Monday through Friday 12:30-3:30
If you are able to attend an afternoon session please request a registration appointment.
- Most of our morning/evening/Saturday classes are full and have very large waiting lists. If you would like to add your name to the waiting list please click here to fill in our waiting list form.
Please note: After you have filled in the form a member of our staff will contact you within 3 weeks to get more information about your class preference.
Language Assessment for Classes: To register for classes, you must have a valid language assessment from the YMCA or have attended LINC or ESL classes in the past 2 years. If you do not have a current language assessment, please click here.
