Immunizations - 2019-2020 School Year

Ottawa Public Health requires proof that your child has received proper immunization. Under the Immunization of School Pupils Act, students attending school in Ontario are required to be vaccinated against nine (9) diseases or have a valid exemption. Parents are required to report all immunizations done at the doctor's office to OPH. Under this Act, OPH has the authority to suspend students for whom OPH does not have a record of immunization from attending school.

As part of the labour negotiations process, both the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) and Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) have now received what is referred to as a “No Board report” from the Ministry of Labour. As a result, the OSSTF will be in a legal strike position on Monday, November 18, 2019 and the ETFO will be in a legal strike position on Monday, November 25, 2019.

The media has recently released a report on water quality in the province. This has included a database of Ontario schools and identifies the number and percentage of tests for lead in comparison to Health Canada recommendations. It should be noted that the data is not current and that all of our elementary schools are in compliance with the requirements of Ontario’s Safe Drinking Water Act.

Valuing Voices
Valuing Voices

The OCDSB is committed to improving equity of access and opportunity for all students. To do this, we need to better understand the challenges our students are facing and where more support is needed. As part of this commitment, the district will be conducting a survey called Valuing Voices – Identity Matters! The survey will be conducted between November 26th and December 13th, 2019. The survey will be completed by parents of students in Kindergarten to Grade 6, and by students in grades 7 to 12.
